James Aubrey Wharton Jr. Obituary
James "Jay" Aubrey Wharton Jr.; 65 of Franklinton passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born to James Aubrey Wharton Sr. and Lena Lloyd Wharton on December 30, 1959.
Jay is preceded in death by his father, James Aubrey Wharton Sr.; his brother, Charles Wharton, and his sister Catherine Wharton.
Left to cherish in his memory are his wife, Iris Wharton; his two sons, Trevor Wharton (Amanda) and Chad Wharton (Tyler); his stepchildren, Luis Lara, Edward Turcios (Jolynette), Allison Turcios, Maxwell Turcios (Kayla); his mother, Lena Bowles; his siblings, Robert J. Wharton (Nina) and Stephanie Griffith (Kenny); three grandchildren, Nevaeh Wharton, Chevy Wharton, and Bella Wharton as well as many nieces and nephews and his sweet rescue cat Felix Wharton.
Jay was an electrician by trade and later started driving trucks until his health no longer allowed. He loved to be outside, doing everything from cutting grass, to working in the yard. He enjoyed grilling and just being outdoors. He was loving known as "Papa Bear" and was just that to everyone he knew and loved. He had a heart of gold and would often do random acts of kindness for anyone in need. He loved welcoming neighbors as they moved in. He truly enjoyed serving others in whatever capacity necessary.
Jay was married to Iris for 10 years. He would lovingly tell her that he loved her to infinity and beyond and to the moon and back. In his free time, he enjoyed watching the tv shows Frazier, Yellowstone and any old western movies. Jay loved watching football, especially N.C. State, Carolina Panthers and the Eagles. He was a man of tremendous faith and enjoy listening to preachers and learning the word of God.
His time on earth was short but the impact that he had on others will carry on through everyone who knew and loved him. His kind spirit is one that will remain in the hearts of all that he touched.
