She was predeceased by: her parents, Fred Kirkland and Lucinda Jenkins Kirkland; her husband Raymond Hovis; her daughter Lucinda Childers; and her siblings, Ethel Walker, Cordelia Russell, Annie Bell Smith, Ann Lois Shephard, Nancy Russell, Rosalee Russell, Floyd Kirkland and Leroy Kirkland.

She is survived by: her son Leon Hovis; and her siblings, Louise Hurst, Dorothy Reddish and Wiley L. Kirkland. She is also survived by six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
