He was predeceased by: his parents, Zeb Carpenter and Alvie Ledford Carpenter; and his siblings, Nora Jean Carpenter and Edward Carpenter. He is survived by: his wife Vonore Murphy Carpenter; his children, Gale Gribble, Lynn Wanner, Sandy Brendle, Rita Carpenter, Dale Carpenter, Ricky Carpenter, Ronnie "Junk" Carpenter and Stevie Carpenter; and his siblings, Olivia Whitmore, Wanda Cabe, Kenneth Carpenter, James Carpenter, Harold Carpenter (Dawsey) and Charles Carpenter. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
