He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Lewis and Allie Blanch Jesse Townsend; his wife Carrie Marie Coffey Townsend; his son Paul Joseph; and his brother Earl Townsend.
He is survived by: his children, Billy Townsend (Connie) of Lenoir, Tammy Greene (Barry) of Lenoir and Allie Moore (Mikie) of Lenoir; his siblings, Paul Townsend of Lenoir, Carolyn Townsend (Gaylord) of Lenoir, Rosa Townsend (Deck) of Lenoir, Mary Smith of Lenoir and Francis Laws of Hudson; and his grandchildren, Faith Holder, Matthew, Joshua, Abby Hall, Nathan, Justin and Kim Townsend.
