He was predeceased by: his wife Betty Norman Gay; his son Ray Gay; and his sister Louise Armstrong. He is survived by: his sons, Joseph E Gay Jr. (Kathy) of Macclesfield and J. W. Gay (Sandra) of Dortches; his sisters, Laura Mae Gay of Pinetops and Ruby Webb of Pinetops; and his grandchildren, Kathy Jo Jones (Jack), Christopher Gay, Lois Marie Coley, Michelle Gay (Jerry Wayne Hollis) and Adam House. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
