He was predeceased by: his wife Gladys Briley Sawyer; and his stepchildren, Peggy Ann Edmondson and James Alfred Vernon. He is survived by: his daughters, Betty Maness of Ayden and Sharon Edmundson; and his stepsons, John Edward Vernon II of Greenville and Ronald Jeffrey Vernon of Austin, TX. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
