He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Wellington Tate and Marie Watkins Tate; and his siblings, Max W. Tate, Helen Tate McGaha, Jean Tate Thomason, Jimmy Charles Tate, Dot Tate and Donald Lee Tate.
He is survived by: his children, Rhonda Tate McCraw (Mitchell) of Forest City, Gina Tate of Rutherfordton and John Towery of Forest City; his sisters, Faye Tate Smith of Forest City, Jolayne Tate Towery of Forest City and Judy Tate Radford (Al) of Forest City; and his grandchildren, Brandon McCraw (Adrian, Lindsey McCraw), Joshua Padgett, Johnathan Towery and Mitchell McCraw (Huntley McCraw).
