He was predeceased by: his parents, Ace Champion and Bardee Hensley Champion; and his daughter Jessica Champion Sandlin. He is survived by: his wife Helen Champion; his children, Cynthia Champion Calhoun (Sidney) of Mooresboro and Ace Jerry Champion (Sarah) of Myrtle Beach, SC; his sister Mary Denise Champion of Forest City; his granddaughters, Alyssa Calhoun Hawkins (Ayden) and Bree Champion; his niece Gabreille Champion; his great-nephew Junior Champion; and his great-niece Kalea Champion.
