He was predeceased by: his parents, Malvin Hoppes and Essie Dellinger Hoppes; and his sister Lois Owens. He is survived by: his wife Judy Hunsinger Hoppes; his daughters, Kim Limerick (Scott) of Shelby, NC and Crystal Cheney (David) of Seneca, SC; and his grandson Scott Hoppes (Darla) of Shingle Hollow, NC..
