He was predeceased by: his parents, Wallace Gowan and Dullie Gilbert Gowan; his son Andrew Gowan; his great grandchild Katelynn Gowan; and his siblings, James, Roland, Eugene, Paul Gowan, Virginia Green, Bonnie Foster, Gladys Teston, Wilma Russell and Katherine Vickers.
He is survived by: his sons, Carlton Gowan (Sherry) of Shelby and Allen Gowan (Betty) of Rutherfordton; his grandchildren, Samantha Lee (Donald), Lacey McKinney (Jason), Jason Gowan, Jonathan Gowan, Tony Gowan (Gina), Matthew Gowan and Katie Hull (Mark); and his stepchildren, Janice and Robert Dayberry of Cleveland County.
