He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Mitchell and Louise Byers White; and his siblings, Johnsie Abrams, Howard Jr., Gene, Jerry and James.
He is survived by: his wife Martha Ann Atchley; his son Preston Scott; his sisters, Sue Ritch (Earl) and Dianne Wilson (Paul); his uncle Jimmy (Gloria); and his brother-in-law Joe Atchley. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
