He was predeceased by: his parents, Ervin Grindstaff and Ruth Price Grindstaff; his daughter Sharon Grindstaff Easler; and his sisters, Barbara Whitehurst and Carolyn Barbee.

He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Smith Grindstaff; his daughters, Tammy Grindstaff McCracken (Rodney) of Forest City and Sonjia Grindstaff Brand (Andy) of Spartanburg, SC; his son-in-law Russ Easler of Spartanburg, SC; his grandchildren, Mark McCracken (Nikki Crawford), Jeff McCracken (Sarah), Lindsay Lehn (Phillip), Brandon Easler, Taylor Easler (Courtney Smith), Alex Brand, Mackenzie Buonopane (Charles, Jr) and Anneliese Brand; and his great grandchildren, Caleb Crain, Ty McCracken, Michael Crawford and Wesley Buonopane. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
