He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Walter Shires and Virginia Aldridge Shires; and his brother Gene Alvin Shires. He is survived by: his wife Christy Gillespie Shires; his daughter Summer Pierce of Spindale; his brother Jerry Wayne Shires (Joyce) of Rutherfordton; his grandchildren, Hayden Bailey Pierce and Chase Alexander Pierce; his friend Dennis Pierce of Valdese; his parents-in-law, Bailey and Joy Gillespie of Spindale; his sister-in-law Helen Melton Shires of Mooresboro; his nieces, Rhonda, Susie, Lynn and Kim; and his nephew Tony.
