He was predeceased by: his parents, Lake Messick and Myrtle Barnett Messick; his brother Ernest Messick; and his brother-in-law Tommy Turner. He is survived by: his wife Jean Greer Messick; his son Derrick Messick (Christina) of Wilkesboro; his grandchildren, Kaylee and Darin Messick; and his siblings, Adeline Turner of Wilkesboro and Arthur Messick (Gay) of Wilkesboro. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
