He was predeceased by: his parents, Hufford Watts and Ethel Bumgarner Watts; and his siblings, Kyle Watts, Vada McNeil and Etta Sue Robinson.

He is survived by: his wife Willa Dean Matherly Watts; his children, Roger Watts (Cleo) of Ferguson, James Watts (Pauline) of Ferguson, Joyce Boyd (Quentin) of Purlear and Rita Watts (Miguel Juarez) of Lenoir; and his siblings, Bud Watts of Mooresville, Jerry Watts (Marcia) of Ferguson, Juanita Watts of Winston Salem and Darphane Sheets of Cricket. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.
