He was predeceased by: his mother Peggy Pittman Cothran; and his sister Donna Cantrell. He is survived by: his wife Amy Honeycutt Cothran; his children, Jonathan Cothran and Ashley Cothran-Lofland (Jonathan); his granddaughter Ellie Lofland; and his father Andrew Cothran.

Visitation was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home (545 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301). A graveside service was held on Thursday, January 2nd 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Lafayette Memorial Park (2301 Ramsey St, Fayetteville, NC 28301).
