He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Sloan Gay and Susie Walston Gay; and his brothers, Seth Richard Gay and Edwin Earl Gay. He is survived by: his spouse Blanche Satterthwaite Gay; his children, Susan Smith (Bert) of Farmville, Sterling Gay (Janet) of Winterville, Kelly Godley (Billy) of Greenville and Kathryn Cargile (Neal) of Winterville; his grandchildren, Tyler Gay, London Godley, Millicent Godley, Sloan Godley, Alayna Cargile and Luke Cargile; his stepgrandchildren, Angie Smith, Mary Beth McAndrew, Virginia Pierce, Bryan O'Keefe and Kristen O'Keefe; his great grandchildren, Kai O'Keefe and Hunter Smith; his sisters-in-law, Dot Gay, Virginia Gay, Cecily Satterthwaite and Harriet Satterthwaite; and his nieces and nephews, Sammy Gay and Mike Gay.
