He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend J. D. Vernelson and Lillian Corbett Vernelson; his brother Joe Vernelson; his siblings-in-law, Eleanor Vernelson and Joe Rogers; and his nephew Danny Vernelson.
He is survived by: his wife Ellen; his daughters, Rhonda Nord (Curtis) and Laurie Dixon (Tavner); his grandchildren, Mark, Vanessa Beamer, Sarah Ottinger (Stephen), Holden Dixon and Jared Dixon; his son Acen; his siblings, Hilton Vernelson (Shirley), Ann James (Doug), Linda Mizelle (Billy), Wayne Vernelson (Sherry) and Elaine Taylor (Walter); and his mothers-in-law, Ann Vernelson, Marian Hardee (Calvin), Marie Gardner (Buster) and Janice Rogers. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
