He is survived by: his wife Anita Powell; his daughter Mary Catherine Powell Harrison (Ben); his granddaughters, Ann Frances and Sarah Lawson; his nephew Scott Everett Carlson (Sweety); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Shaan and Matthew Lloyd Carlson; his siblings, Douglas Powell (D. A.) and Sarah Catherine Powell Brooks (David); his niece Evelyn Ann Powell Hunt (Lee); his siblings-in-law, Barbara Ann Francis and Rodney Carlson; and his cousin Jane Carlton Confroy.
