She was predeceased by: her parents, Wallace M. Hughes and Isabel Ruth Hughes; her former husband Wilbert Lewis Smith; and her stepchildren, Walter G. Iles, III, Nancy Iles Berger and John B. Iles.
She is survived by: her husband Walter G. Iles Jr.; her children, Wilbert Lewis Smith, III (Lulu) of Fairview, Marilyn Smith Jeffery (John) of Silver Spring, Patricia Smith Slater (David) of Tryon and Wendy Smith Mikelsons (Ivars) of Oak Creek; and her stepdaughters, Susan Iles O'Leary of Fairport and Cathy Iles Davenport (Chris) of Asheville. She is also survived by seven step-grandchildren and ten great step-grandchildren.
