Louise Nettles Taylor Obituary
Louise Richburg Nettles Taylor, one of the last true Southern Belles, passed away in Fairview, NC on 12/12/22 at age 99. Born into humble beginnings in the South Carolina low country, the older daughter of Dora and Eugene Richburg, Louise strived her entire life to give herself and her family the best life possible. With little formal education, but with a sharp and astute math mind, she lifted herself out of poverty by becoming the first bookkeeper, and later office manager, for Florence S.C. Radiological Associates. As a full-time mother and breadwinner, at a time when most of her peers were homemakers, Louise always found time to take care of her family and friends, as well as numerous "adopted" sisters, cousins, nieces, and nephews. And she did it all in heels, make-up, nail polish, fashionable clothes, with every hair in place, and a gentle wry sense of humor. As a woman of Faith, and with a fierce perspective, Louise taught her daughter the value of "family", regardless of race, color, or financial status. And she did so with love, grace, determination, and a fortitude to be admired.
She leaves behind a daughter, Rebecca (Beckie) Nettles of Fairview, NC, her husband Curtis Coates, and a beloved granddaughter, Sydney Nettles-Coates (husband Davey Pierce) of East Point, GA, a niece, Carolyn Lamb, step-grand sons, Robert, Steven, and Kyle Nettles (from her first husband, Robert M Nettles) and their extended families, as well as the late Charles Taylor (her second and much loved husband) family in Florence, SC.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Mount Hope Cemetery.
In honor of Louise's passionate love of animals, donations to your local animal rescue shelters would be an appropriate and much appreciated final gift.
