He was loved and cherished by many people including: his wife Elizabeth "Libby" Houser Smith; his son Darin Edward Smith (Kiyini) of Golden Valley; his siblings, Doris Elliott of Mill Spring, J. B. of Golden Valley, Clay of Golden Valley, Harold of Golden Valley and Morris of Golden Valley; his half-sister Corene McDaniel of Rutherfordton; and his granddaughter Makayla Yarbrough.
