He was predeceased by: his parents, James "Pat" Patrick and Patricia "Trish" Jones Carter; and his brother Terry Lynn Carter. He is survived by: his wife Sandra Lynn Meadows Carter; his son D. J. Carter (Jamie) of Whiteville; his siblings, James Larry Carter (Breezy) of Evergreen and Susan Carter (Sue); his grandchildren, Meredith Carter and Caroline Carter; and his close friend Sherry Young Barnes of Bladenboro.
