He was predeceased by: his parents, William Grover Angel and Evelyn Early Angel; his former wife Dorothy "Dot" McCoy Angel; his daughter Janet Angel Wakefield; and his siblings, Betty Angel Jennings and Jim Angel.

He is survived by: his wife Sue Smith; his daughter Kendra Angel Byers (Don); his grandson Sheridan (Suzanne); his great grandchildren, Ellis and Cullen Byers; his granddaughter Caroline Byers Roberts (Justin Roberts); his great grandchildren, Ruby and Evelyn "Evie"; his son-in-law David Wakefield of Lenoir; his granddaughter Ashley Wakefield Edwards (Bradley); his great grandchild Laney of Lenoir; his granddaughter Amanda Wakefield of Lenoir; his siblings, Madge Angel Salter of Brevard, Don Angel (Mary) of Little River, SC, Earl Angel (Bonnie) of Gastonia, NC and Gene Angel (Dana) of Ft. Myers; his stepson Rick; his stepgrandson Jessie of Etowah; his stepson John (Tammy) of Grand Ridge; his stepgrandchildren, Michael, Kaitlyn and Reba (Devin); and his stepgreat-granddaughter Anyssa. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Due to Covid-19, the family will have a private graveside service.
