It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Paul Coates of Etowah, North Carolina, born in Asheville, North Carolina, who passed away on April 2, 2024, at the age of 69, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Coates and Cora Griffin Coates; and his siblings, Teresa Bradley, Brenda Coates and Ronald "Ronnie" Coates.

He is survived by: his wife Karen Keyes Coates; and his siblings, Phyllis Rowland (Don), Paula Fox (Frank) and Larry Coates. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Buddy's honor may be made to a charity of one's choice.
