She was predeceased by: her parents, William Sherman and Laurie Johnson Soots; and her siblings, A. C. Soots, Billy Soots and Anna Lou Combs.
She is survived by: her son James Harrold (Brandy) of Erwin; her grandchildren, Megan, Scott Harrold, Alexis and Bailey Hobson; her brother J. S. Soots of North Wilkesboro; her nephew Keith Combs (Betty) of Erwin; her great-niece Ashely Clark (Tim) of Erwin; and also Hunter Clark. She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.
Velma loved receiving cards and the family requests sympathy cards instead of flowers for her service.
