He was predeceased by: his parents, Mae Brown Canipe and Tom Canipe. He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Jilcott Canipe; his daughter Beth Wiles (Gunner); his grandchildren, Scotti Moody (Stephen) and Brad Wilborne (Kelli); his son Lee Canipe (Tammy); his grandchildren, Carly Parker (Gary) and Chase Canipe (Chelsea); his son Cliff Canipe (Stephanie); his grandchildren, Camille Canipe, Natalie Kidd (Carson) and Wesley Canipe; his daughter Allison Roehrenbeck (Brad); his grandchildren, William Roehrenbeck, Molly Roehrenbeck and Matthew Roehrenbeck; and his brother Richard Canipe (Rosemary). He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Hospice of The Piedmont or Winston Salem Rescue Mission.
