He was predeceased by: his parents, Zebulon Vance Thompson and Claudine Hanks Thompson; and his siblings, Nancy Swaim and Vance Thompson. He is survived by: his wife Charlene Blackburn Thompson; his son Luke; his daughter-in-law Sheryl Thompson; his daughter Amanda; his son-in-law Allen McDevitt; and his granddaughters, Melinda Thompson, Joanna Thompson, Lora McDevitt and Amber McDevitt.
