He was predeceased by: his wife Effie Hamlin Laster; and his siblings, Nervia Melton, Emma Holyfield, Vergie Melton Cockerham, Onia Lawrence, Avery Laster and Harvey Laster.
He is survived by: his daughter Barbara Luffman of Elkin; his son-in-law Jack Luffman of Elkin; and his nieces and nephews, Linda Martin, Barry Martin, Cathy Fergus, Jay Fergus, Ronnie Lawrence, Jimmy Lawrence, Dorothy Forsythe, Bill Forsythe, Scarlett Wall, Greg Hamlin, Sandra Hamlin, Ricky Hamlin, Jennifer Hamlin, Misty Jones, Buddy Jones, Linda Leinbach and Monty Leinbach.
