He is survived by: his father Jimmy Raeford Mathis; his brother Billy Joe Mathis; his grandmother Peggy Mathis of Elkin; his aunts, Phyliss McGee, Cindy Sizemore (Russell), Kathy Huggins (Gregory), Janet Vestal (Pete), Wendy Combs (Tim Blevins) and Susan Hooker (Terry); and his uncle Danny Mathis (Diane).
