He was predeceased by: his parents, Capp Smoot and Berlene Mathis Smoot; his former wife Ruby Norman Smoot; his wife Betty Ayers Smoot; and his sister Audry Smoot.

He is survived by: his daughter Sharon Clifton (Johnny) of State Road; and his brothers, William Smoot (Barbara) of Elkin, Lanny Mathis (Debbie) of Lewisville and Walter Kennedy (Wanda) of Elkin. He is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to The Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
