He is survived by: his children, Karen McMahan of Bakersville, NC, James Benfield (Angelia) of Burnsville, NC, Johnny Dale Benfield (Pamela) of Newland, NC and Ron Benfield of Newland, NC; his daughter-in-law Kathy Benfield of Newland, NC; his brothers, Herman Benfield of Elk Park, NC and Sam Benfield of Newland, NC; his grandchildren, Kenny, Lisa (Cleve), Lily (Cody), Anna (Devin), Tiffany, Cody, James, Christy (JR), Dora, Nicole (George) and Little Jerry; and his great grandchildren, Isaiah, Andy, Peyton, Daisy, Christany, Kendra, Aubree, Dannie, Timothy, Remileah, RuthAnn, Austin, Reed, Memphis, James, Noah, Maci, Diane, Harper and Aubrey.
