He was predeceased by: his parents, James Leonard Long and Mae Herring Long; his wife Margie Leen Watson Long; and his siblings, Marshall, Betty Flower, Barbara Caulder, Addie Mae Soles and Patsy Horn.
He is survived by: his children, Donald James Long (Sherry) of Hope Mills, Eric Eugene Long (Tori) of St. Pauls and Treasia Long Melvin (Ted) of St. Pauls; and his siblings, Dwight "Pete" Long of Bladenboro, Huey Long of Tar Heel, Phyllis Riley of Lumberton, Judy Hubbard of Grays Creek, Mildred Long of Dublin and Patricia "Elaine" Smith of Tar Heel. He is also survived by four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
