She was predeceased by: her parents, George Smith and Garnet Smith; her siblings, George Smith and Sterling Smith; and her son Milton Sawyer Jr..
She is survived by: her children, George Sawyer of Elizabeth City, NC, Mike Carpenter (Sheri) of Irmo, SC, David Carpenter (Karen) of Greenville, NC and Lisa Loucks (Leonard) of Shiloh, NC.; and her sister Rosemary Clements of Belvidere, NC. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.
