He was predeceased by: his parents, Aggie Howard Austin and Haralson Hassler Austin; his wife Jean Evelyn Rowland; his brother Jack; his daughter Karen Headrick; and his former wife Betty Whittemore.
He is survived by: his sons, Stephen Edward (Jan) and Kevin Roland (Robin). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, family is requesting that donations be made to the Blue Ridge Honor Flight, an organization that helps to transport veterans to Washington, DC to visit memorials that are dedicated to the sacrifices made by American heroes.
