He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred A. Smith and Nina Heck Smith; his siblings, Royce Smith and Betty Smith MacIsaac; his son Michael Smith; and his granddaughter Lauren Messinger.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Wheatley Smith of Dover; his children, Art Smith (Marsha) of McGregor, MN and Beth Messinger (Michael) of Spring Branch, TX; and his grandchildren, Drew, Corey, Brad Smith, Carrie Guy, Stephanie Bariatti and Alexandra Mainord.
