He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Houston Hargrove and Pauline Storms Hargrove; his wife Alethea Allen Hargrove; and his daughter Cherie H. Lemaster. He is survived by: his children, Melanie Ann Ballenger (Ricky) of Castle Hayne, NC, Charlene H. Watson of Edenton and Robert Allen Hargrove (Janet) of Edenton; his sisters, Micky Tatum of Elizabethtown, NC and Mary Ann Hester of Elizabethtown, NC; and his grandchildren, Michael Floyd, Keri Jackson Thrasher, Autumn Watson, Ashley Watson and Elizabeth Lemaster. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren.
