It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mary Owens Bivens of Edenton, North Carolina, born in Gates, North Carolina, who passed away on October 21, 2022, at the age of 82, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Bennie Owens and Ethel King Owens; her husband Joseph Miles Bivens, Sr.; and her siblings, Doris Jean Brickhouse, Virginia Lane, B. G., Bob and Billy Owens.
She is survived by: her children, Sheryl Pierce (late Larry) of Tyner, Donna B. Harrell (Doug) of Camden, Joseph Miles Bivens, Jr. (Christy) of Edenton, Thomas G. Bivens of Edenton and Bennie Robert Bivens (April) of Sneedville, TN; her sisters, Frances VanHorn of The Villages, FL, Ruth Lane of Edenton, Joyce Evans of Edenton and Carolyn Howell; and her close friend C. Y. Parrish of Edenton. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
