He was predeceased by: his parents, James Oliver Layden, Sr. and Ruth Winslow Layden; and his siblings, Ruth Ann Riddick, Marvis Parrish, Millard "Shorty" Layden and James Oliver "Teny" Layden, Jr..
He is survived by: his wife Doris Faye Chappell Layden; his children, Ruthie Layden Moody (Troy) of Belvidere, Rachel Layden Reid (Terry) of Belvidere and Kenneth Ray Layden, Jr. (Lisa) of Belvidere; his siblings, Betty Lois Lane of Orlando, FL and Wesley E. Layden, Sr. of Hobbsville; his grandchildren, Kyle Layden (Kaitlin), Tyler Moody (Katelyn), Kennedy Moody, Savanna Reid, Chase Reid and Kole Reid; and his great grandchildren, Felicity, Rosalie Layden, Jamison, Korie Moody, Walker and David Taylor.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, March 18th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel (735 Virginia Rd, Edenton, NC 27932). A reception was held on Tuesday, March 18th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home and Crematory (735 Virginia Rd, Edenton, NC 27932).
