She was predeceased by: her husband Robert L. Thornton; her daughters, Donna T. Leibel and Sheila T. Liles; her sister Hope M. Carmines of Edenton; her sons, Terry Thornton (Karen) of Elizabeth City and Brent Thornton (Nancy) of Winston Salem; and her grandchildren, Wesley Liles, Scott Liles, Melissa Griffey, Megan Overton and Kelsey Cartwright (Kevin).

She is survived by: her great grandchildren, Taylor, Grace, Everly, Zane, Lilah and Jaylen.
