He was predeceased by: his parents, Spencer Matney and Marian Matney. He is survived by: his wife Alma Jean Matney (AJ); his daughters, Jean Matney English (Doug), Laura Matney Smith (Kris) and Alison Gail Matney; and his grandchildren, Porter English, Spencer English, Landon Smith and Brodie Stair.
A graveside service was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Maplewood Cemetery (1621 Duke University Rd, Durham, NC 27701).
He was also a devoted noble in the Mystic Shrine, embodying the fraternal values of brotherhood and charity.
