He is survived by: his siblings, Lugenia Parker (William), Hannah Louise Cates Harris, Pearl Cates Bullock, Mary Curry, Ananias Samuel Cates, Goldsmith Cates (Amay), Marie Carrington, Evelyn Jean Cates, Pauline Cates and Claudine Cates; his sister-in-law Jean Lowe Cates; and his aunts, Ester Edwards and Lizzie Mayo. He is also survived by nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
