He is survived by: his wife Janine; his children, James Murphy, Jr., John Murphy, Elizabeth Schauer (Justin), Joseph Murphy (Alex) and Julie Kommer (Scott); his grandchildren, Christian Schauer, William Schauer, Madeleine Kommer and Eleanor Kommer; and his siblings, Charles M. Murphy (Judy), Roselyn Stanley (Jack) and Sarah Natale (Tony). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, November 16th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Chapel Hill Bible Church (260 Erwin Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514).
