He was predeceased by: his parents, Bunnie M. McFarland and Verta Pendergraph McFarland; his former wife Billie Jean Upchurch McFarland; and his wife Gerry Lee Elliott McFarland. He is survived by: his sons, Dean McFarland and Michael McFarland; his stepsons, Tom Apodaca (Lisa) and Currie Tilley (Suzanne); and his grandchildren, Deanna McFarland (Brandon), Dylan McFarland, Brandon Apodaca (Kristen), Tate Apodaca, Logan Jasper (Marty) and Matthew Tilley (Sheena). He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Operation Christmas Child through Immanuel Baptist Church, 3610 Hillandale Rd. Durham, NC 27705.
