With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Ben Shirley (Durham, North Carolina), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 11, 2025 at the age of 97. As we bid farewell to this luminous soul, let his loved ones carry forward the torch of his memory, illuminating the path ahead with the warmth of his love and the brilliance of his spirit. Though Ben may journey beyond the horizon of our sight, his essence remains woven into the very fabric of our being — a guiding light in the darkness, a beacon of hope in the night.
He was predeceased by: his parents, John Shirley and Hazel Ellis Shirley; his wife Helen Foreman of Durham; and his sisters, Hilda Shirley Pittman and Marie Shirley Garver.
He is survived by: his brother Burney of Goldsboro. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held on Thursday, April 17th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Woodlawn Memorial Park (2107 Liberty St, Durham, NC 27703).
