He was predeceased by: his parents, James S. Farthing, Sr. and Beatrice Underwood Farthing; his wife Rosalyn Poole Farthing; and his brother Earl Davis Farthing. He is survived by: his children, James "Jimmy" S. Farthing, III (Laureen) of Greensboro and Lucille F. Smith (Lee) of Little River, SC; his granddaughters, Michelle Farthing and Whitney Harrison (Bobby); and his great grandchild Piper Smith.
