He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Surles and Irene Surles; his sister Martha Ann Cox; his cousin Gwendolyn Ritchey; and his brothers-in-law, Wade Hardison, Jr. (Becky Hardison) and Donald Bruce Johnson of Dunn.
He is survived by: his wife Priscilla Hardison; his sister Ida Sue Williams (Larry) of Boca Raton; his niece Susan Stone (Mark) of Coconut Grove; and his nephews, James Cox, Wade Hardison (Dana) of Plain View and Brad Hardison (Chrissy) of Plain View.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hood Memorial Christian Church 300 E. Cumberland St. Dunn, N.C. 28334 (a portion of donations to the church will go to Backpack Buddies at the DUMA Food Pantry) or the Dunn Shrine Club P.O. Box 812 Dunn, N.C. 28335.
