He was predeceased by: his parents, Coy Poole and Mary Lou Herring Smith; and his former wife Ann Summerlin Smith. He is survived by: his wife Teresa "Terri" Smith; his son Joe Thomas Smith, Jr.; his sisters, Carolyn Rhodes and Betty Lou Ezzell; and his grandsons, Ryan Smith and Bryce Smith. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
