He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmie Hughes and Christine Combs Hughes; his son Terry Ray Hughes; his granddaughter Torrie Hughes; and his pet Pepper.
He is survived by: his wife Opel Capps Hughes; his children, Arthur Hughes, Kim Hughes (Bobby) and Cindy Pate; his brother David Hughes (Mary); his grandchildren, William Kyle Pate (Abby) and Stacey Hughes; his great grandchild Lewis Pate; his caregiver Shelly Bailey; and his pets, Gracie, Baylee and Nia. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
