He is survived by: his wife Dixie Cook Atkins; his children, Carl Steven Atkins, Sarah Kathryn Hutson and William Shane Atkins; his grandchildren, Lane Montgomery Hutson, Charley Grace Hutson and Sadie Lee Hutson; his brother Kenneth; his sister-in-law Carlene Atkins; his sisters, Kim Atkins and Kay (Mark Senter); his niece Ashley Marie Simmons; his close friends, Lynn Hayden, Danny Greenwood and Dennis Haynes; and his pet Harlee.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 22nd 2025 at 6:30 PM at the Blues Grove Baptist Church (3607 Red Brush Rd, Mt Airy, NC 27030). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 23rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
